The Waterwheels of Storgruvan
The first waterwheel installation at Storgruvan was built in 1821. A new waterwheel was probably constructed in the 1850s.
The hoisting machinery built in 1824 appears to have been taken out of operation during the 1850s. The waterwheel that replaced the earlier hoisting machinery was built further to the north.
In 1861, Steffansson wrote in his proposal prior to the regulation of the falls in the Persberg Canal that the Storgruvan waterworks had recently been rebuilt according to the requirements of the time.
Image one, marked “Wheel House”, is probably the hoisting house of Storgruvan.
