The Risfall wheels were built in 1870 and were 48-foot overshot water wheels. They received their water from a canal beginning downstream of Braskefallet. How the water was divided between the Storgruvfallet and the Risfallet is not documented in the available sources.
The water used by the Risfall wheels flowed directly into Lake Yngen. The water that passed Storgruvfallet continued past Österholm and powered the wheel at Soviken before reaching Yngen.
The Risfall wheels were powerful installations supplying several mines with both pumping power and hoisting power. Within the Odal field this included the Alabama Mine and the Great Mine, and to the east Isak’s Mine and the Hage Mines.
In 1879, the Alabama Mine was equipped with a double-acting pressure pump at a depth of 110 metres.
By driving a drift between the two mines, water could be transferred from the Great Mine to the Alabama Mine. In this way, a single shared pumping installation was sufficient.
Image 2 shows the reversing chamber and the pump rod system leading to the Alabama shaft. The photograph is said to date from the 1880s, which is consistent with the circumstances.
The pump rod system that previously continued to the Great Mine had been removed, since from 1879 onwards all pumping took place in the southern shaft of the Alabama Mine.
