In the mid-1880s, telephone associations were started all over the country. In 1889, the Telegraph Administration began connecting the local networks into a larger network which they called the National Telephone Network.
In the local network in Persberg there were 6 subscribers in 1884 and one line to Filipstad.
In Persberg, telephones were located at:
the Manager’s residence
the Office
the General Store
Doctor Öberg
Engineer Törneman
the Station
The line from Persberg to Filipstad probably went to the switchboard in Filipstad, where the calls were connected onward into the network.
The network in Persberg most likely belonged to the Filipstad Bergslag Telephone Association.
Image 6 shows the subscribers in the association.
Johanna Bjurbäck apparently earned her living by carrying messages around the area.
She was responsible for the message deliveries, mostly in Persberg but also to Filipstad and Saxån.
One can imagine that this lady knew most of what happened in the village — perhaps a kind of “Krösa Maja.”
