The railway ran between Malmbergsviken and Bottengruvan, with a 130-metre siding leading to the loading quay at Hallgruvan.
According to the map, there was also a siding leading to Malmbergskärrgruvan. No remains of this track have been found, but it was probably removed when the waste rock dumps were later moved to the ore-processing plant.
The other mines along the line naturally used the railway for their transports.
The decision to build the railway presented certain difficulties, as the mines along the proposed route had different owners and interests. Eventually they agreed to form a joint “railway company”, which made it possible to carry out the construction.
In the new company the shares were distributed as follows:
Bottengruvan – 40 shares
Jordåskärr Mine – 30 shares
Malmbergskärr Mine – 12 shares
Jordås Mine – 18 shares
Total: 100 shares
The railway construction was supervised by mining engineer A. Sjögren, assisted by workers from the mines.
