During the 1880s, attempts were made to exploit the ore deposits which, according to compass indications, were believed to exist beneath the bottom of Kroppafjärden.
An attempt was made to use a caisson to keep the water out and sink a shaft down to the presumed ore body.
However, the attempt with the caisson had to be abandoned, probably because of difficulties in preventing water from leaking in.
The project was not entirely abandoned. Instead, a shaft was sunk on the shore, and at a level of 52.5 metres, a drift was driven out beneath the lake towards the supposed ore body.
As only a narrow and poor vein of ore was found, which was not considered worth mining, the mine was abandoned in 1890.
