The mines at Tallnäset have somewhat confusing names. Information was compared from historical records, the Persberg ore district, and several maps to determine the correct names.
Location: NW of the intersection Gruvstationsvägen – Högbergsvägen. The road has experienced settlements and collapses several times.
History:
1789: The mine had been worked previously but is mentioned for the first time in records this year. Abandoned due to heavy water influx and poor ore supply. Depth: ~43 m, length: ~9 m.
1798: A hoisting shaft constructed, likely for easier ore transport.
1800–1806: Work at the mine suspended.
1814: The mechanical hoist (“konst”) moved here from Lilla Tallnäs Mine.
1816: Depth reached ~54 m.
1818: The company merged with Malmbergskärr Company, hoist relocated; mine abandoned.
1813: Hoist installed, powered by a wheel in Yngshytte River. Depth: ~28 m, width: ~2.5 m.
1814: Only a narrow ore vein remained at the bottom. Mining ceased. Hoist moved to Stora Tallnäs Mine.
Location: SO of the intersection Tallnäsvägen – Högbergsvägen.
History:
1794: First mentioned; depth ~14 m.
1798: Bottom ~12 m long; ore of “astonishing thickness.”
1871: Henceforth referred to as Tallnäs Mine; reopened from disuse.
1872: Bottom reached; found ~1.8 m wide rich ore vein. Depth ~85 m.
1875: Work stopped due to lack of power.
1878: Mining resumed later in the year.
1880: Ore still good, but work stopped due to poor hoist tunnel and limited water supply.
1881: No work.
1882: Bottom ore-bearing but limited work due to strong water inflow.
1884: Water inflow made mining unprofitable; work stopped in July.
